About

Tae-Young Yu is a screen composer based in Los Angeles. She studied literary analysis and cultural criticism, obtaining Master’s degrees in English Literature at Ewha Womans [sic] University and also in Early Modern Studies at University College London (UCL). However, as she gradually realised her earnest passion for film music, Tae opted to take a hiatus to reassess her career path. After deciding to pursue a career in music, Tae released a full-length album, On that Day, I Opened the Door, in 2019, and have been in charge of music for films and animations. Recently, she achieved her master’s degree in Screen Scoring at New York University (‘23), and currently works in the production music field.

Under the influence of her mother, a musician and professor of Music, and her father, a poet and professor of French Literature, Tae was encouraged from an early age to cultivate familiarity with various forms of artistic expression. She thus engaged as a matter of course in composing musical pieces based on literary works that sparked her imagination; much of the focus of her studies, in turn, investigated the interplay of sound, spoken words, and other sonic elements traceable in literary texts. Her such pursuits and inclinations enabled her to acquire an interdisciplinary perspective and hone a more complex artistic sensibility, twin qualities that will be instrumental to her success in the field of screen scoring.
